One commonly accepted criteria is that if it has seeds it's a fruit, otherwise it's a vegetable. So, a tomato and a cucumber would qualify as fruits. However, we often associate fruits with sweetness so that's why it's hard to think of them as fruits.

Both are technically fruits because they have seeds. Most people would call them vegetables though, because they are more sour (and in my opinion worse) than typical fruits, like apples and bananas.

Botanically speaking they are fruits, but they are part of a class of fruits that we refer to as vegetables

Vegetable is not a term that a botanist uses. It is a Grocers term.
To a Grocer, it would be a vegetable
To a Botanist it would be a fruit

Zucchini is commonly looked at as a plant, and in layman's parlance, of course, this much more useful; however, by tight definition, the zucchini is a fruit, being the swollen ovary of the zucchini flower.
