Ok this is soooo gross. I opened a rice krispie and i started eating it and i had taken about five bites when i noticed a small dark ball. I examined it and i turned out to be a bug, legs and all. I am COMPLETLEY grossed out by this and i need to know if there is anything i can do at all legally.

You;ll get some free product.

I ate a can of crabmeat one tiem from Bumblebee, and there was a sharp piece of plastic in it, very sharp, enough to cut.

I called and the guy was super -apologetic and I got sent refund and extra coupons.

Unless you ate it and got sick and disabled from it, there is not much you can do.

It is interesting though, because Rice Krispie treats are pale in colour and the bug was dark. There are so many bugs in food you would NOT believe it.

If it was a Coco Krispie treat I guess your snack would have giuven you extra prortien , and you would never know.

Yeast ( in the bread you eat) is often made from fermented growth which dead bugs are in, honey too- they don't get rid of all the bugs.

I got a dead fly in my packet of Chinese rice crackers once.

This is one of the reasons I now only eat wholefood and don't buy packaged stuff.

Too many people have sweated and spit on the food on the production line, if you ask me.

Well, welcome to reality. I've read some of the answers you have been given. Bugs live in all sorts of things in our pantry, and if you're creepy about it, make sure you look over the next bowl of cereal before you put milk on it.

Keep the Cream of Wheat, and Malt-O-Meal (and other cooking cereals) in the refrigerator to prevent further egg hatching. That's another reason why they want you to sift your flour before using it, so the flour goes in and the bugs stay out.

Bugs love grains. You've eaten so many by the time you get to be a teen, and you've never known it until now. If you pour the spaghetti from the box directly into the boiling water, you may even see them float to the top.

Yes, it's yuck time to find an adult one, but hey, they have to eat too.

Legally? Like the guy said, unless you were disabled or became so sick...........but you didn't. And now you're a bit smarter for it.

Welcome to life!!!!

Legally?

To prepare a batch of crickets or mealworms:

Take the desired quantity of live insects, rinse them off and then pat them dry. This procedure is easy to do with mealworms, but fairly hard to do with crickets. To do so with crickets, pour them all into a colander and cover it quickly with a piece of wire screening or cheesecloth. Rinse them, then dry them by shaking the colander until all the water drains. Then put the crickets or mealworms in a plastic bag and put them in the freezer until they are dead but not frozen. Fifteen minutes or so should be sufficient. Then take them out and rinse them again. You don't really have to clean mealworms, though if you want, you can chop off their heads. Cricket's heads, hind legs, and wing cases can be removed according to personal preference; I like doing so, since cricket legs tend to get stuck in your teeth. You are now ready to use the insects in all kinds of culinary treats!

Mealworm Chocolate Chip Cookies

*

1/2 cup butter

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup white sugar

1 egg

1/2 teaspoon vanilla

1 cup all purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 cup oats

1/2 cup chocolate chips

1/4 cup mealworm flour

Cream butter well, then mix in sugar, egg, vanilla flour, salt, baking soda, chocolate chips, oats, and mealworm flour. Drop batter by the teaspoonful on a greased cookie sheet. Bake for 10 minutes at 375 degrees farenheit. This recipe doesn't have much in the way of palpable insect content, but is an excellent way to introduce others (or yourself!) to entomophagy. Even many rather squeamish people will try mealworm cookies, since the cookie format doesn't look "gross" to most people, and since it is rather difficult to actually taste the mealworms, though they enrich the cookie with a somewhat nutty flavor and extra protein.

Companies are usually quick to refund under those circumstances. You will need to keep the proof, that's where I'd give up. I wouldn't want it around.
