1. You don't have to boil the milk. Many people are sadly paranoid and misinformed about food safety.

2. Milk is usually good for far longer than the three days that many people mistakenly believe in. I have kept milk in my fridge for three WEEKS beyond the Sell By date, and it was fine.

3. Always use your own common sense to determine if food is still good.

Does it look ok?

Does it smell ok? (You will know if milk is spoiled, believe me)

Does it feel ok? (Most useful for meats)

Finally, Does it taste ok? A small sip of spoiled milk will not hurt you, but you will know for sure if it really is bad.

That date printed on a package or container is not 'magic'; food can be good for weeks and months beyond the date.

for the billionth time food doesn't "expire" !!!!!!!!!

those dates are for store stock rotation... if milk is "off" you shall smell and taste it... if it tastes ok it is ok...

Probably, but have somebody smell it first.

It's bad and probably contaminated your whole fridge time to dump everything.

one day is not expired! it is expired when it tastes soured. So taste it before tossing it out, or use it for cooking! Milk does not totally go bad so fast!

If it still tastes good, it's fine. The expiration date is just a guideline. Depending on how the milk was stored, it could last a little longer, or "go bad" sooner.

In any event, old milk won't hurt you...it just tastes off. Think of all the dairy products that are made from aged milk, like cheese and sour cream.

"Best before" does not mean "poisonous after".

Would you still eat an apple or orange if someone had put a sticker on it that said "best before" a certain date? Of course. Fruit and vegetables do are not going to go rancid or moldy the moment the clock strikes midnight on the best before date. Same holds true for milk, cheese, ice cream, eggs, and several other foods in our fridge. I've eaten mayonnaise that was a month beyond it's best before date. I had an unopened Kraft Italian dressing that was two years beyond the best before date when I started using it... no illness. no bad effects. Not that I recommend people do this intentionally, just that you have to realize the food is almost always still safe to eat, but just may not taste "optimal".

The regulations differ in each country, but the things that will risk your health by using them after a certain date will usually have an "EXPIRY DATE" or a "USE BY" date, not a Best Before date. And that is usually things like medications or contact lenses.

Yes it's fine. The expiration date is just a guideline. If milk is left out, it will go off way before it's expiry date. If it's frozen or kept refrigerated, it usually lasts a lot longer.

If you're ever unsure just smell it - you'll know when it's off!

thats not an expiration date, its a best if used by date..the word expired doesn't even appear on the carton.

If your milk tastes good and smells good it is good.
