whats the difference between Ginger Beer and Root Beer?

Is there a difference between ginger beer and root beer, or are they the same beverage just different terminology...? i live in australia and have just thought that ginger and root beer are the same thing, as i havent seen root beer sold in any stores or supermarkets. if they are different what flavour or flavours is root beer?

Yes, root beer is made from sassafras root, and has no alcoholic content. Ginger beer is made from ginger, and currently is also a soft drink. In England, there are a couple of companies that make alcoholic ginger beer, and it is labeled as such.

Root Beer is made from the sassafras root. It has a much smoother flavour than Ginger Beer, and it isn't alcohol; it's a type of soda.
