I am supposed to bring a dessert to a party Friday, yesterday I was called and told to make it chocolate, so my plan of a red-white & blueberry cake went out the window! Does anyone have some quick, easy, and inexpensive, chocolate dessert?

Also, there will be A LOT of kids (both the kind that are under the age of 12, and some 30 sometings that never grew up), so I was thinking maybe a "dirt cake"? But I am not sure if that is appropriate for a party/cookout.

I think everyone that loves chocolate will love the Dirt Cake. I think the mississippi mud cake would be also good. What about brownies with frosting?

I think the dirt dessert is great for cookouts, it shows up at our family cookouts (with lots of kids) all the time...another one is the Ice Cream Sandwich Dessert:

19 chocolate (or vanilla) ice cream sandwiches

1 12 oz container of frzn whipped topping, thawed

1 12 oz jar of chocolate fudge sauce

1 cup peanuts (optional)

1. cut one sandwich in half

2. place one whole and one half sandwich along short side of

an ungreased 13x9x2 pan

3. Arrange 8 sandwiches in opposite direction in pan

4. Spread w/ half of the whipped topping

5. Spread fudge topping by teaspoonfulls over whipped

topping

6. Sprinkle w/ 1/2 cup of peanuts (optional)

7. Repeat layers till everything is used up

Here's an easy, elegant and yummy idea....

Chocolate covered strawberries

Just melt some chocolate morsels (Nestle) in a microwave bowl. Dip prepared strawberries half way into melted chocolate and set to dry on waxed paper. If it doesn't harden quickly you can pop them in the fridge. Just slide a cookie sheet under the wax paper.

To prepare the strawberries: I have found that cold, chilled strawberries will set the chocolate better. I suggest chilling the berries, rinsing them under cold water, patting dry with paper towels. Leave the leaves/stem on. This is what you will hold on to when dipping and eating.

Yummy.... find an elegant plate to serve these on and you will have everyone oooing and ahhing.

Enjoy! Happy party!

Google "Mississippi Mud Pie" for a recipe. This might be the same as a "dirt cake" but I'm not sure. But the MS Mud Pie is easy and relatively cheap.

As for the chocolate strawberries, its a nice idea but they might melt if you don't keep them on ice.
