I tip more for a server who is polite and friendly. For example, since I have food allergies, a waitress who doesn't roll their eyes at my questions or special requests is a big plus ;) I have children, so it is really important to treat my children with respect, as well. I don't know how many times I have said thank you to a server and gotten a response, and my child says thank you and isn't even acknowledged. On nights when it is really busy, if I see that a waitress is doing her best to keep up with the tables and having a good attitude doing it, I am more likely to tip well, even if my water isn't refilled right away, or I have to wait longer to order. Just trying to be a better waitress is more likely to get you a good tip, so thank you for asking!

* I like it when the server introduces themselves and tells us the specials and then lets us be.

* I like it when the server knows to give us time to read the menu and doesn't rush us. If we need more time, I like it when the server says no problem and then stays away until she can see that we all have our menus down.

* I like it when they can recommend items on the menu.

* I like it when they ask if we have any questions about the menu.

* I like it when they keep our glasses full.

* I like it when they check on us every once and awhile - but not too often.

* I like it when they make sure we have plenty of napkins and water, utensils and dressings. etc.

* I like it if they ask if we want dessert, but don't push the issue.

* I like it when they are nice and friendly but I hate it when they try to sit in our booth.

Other suggestions: Bring extra bread, extra glasses of soda, or a soda to go at the end of the meal or little extras. My family love waiters / waitresses that remember them, that take time to ask about how they are doing, talks to the little kids, complements how cute the kid is... blah, blah, blah. It keeps them coming back again and again and they always tip well.

good service. If you work in a diner and the average check is $8.00 then you won't make much. In a nice restaurant the checks are $100 so you make lots more.

Check on your customers more. Not too much, but not too little.

Smile more and be friendly. :D

Don't put your hand on your hip, ever. xD

If someone repeats the order don't say "I know." Simply nod and say "Alright" but friendly like.(:
